The first summer mansion at Lake Geneva, The Oaks, was built by Dr. Maxwell, a wealthy Chicago surgeon just before the Civil War. It later became a lodge that was used by prominent persons, including Ronald Reagan and his wife-to-be, Nancy Davis. The sleepy little mill town was beginning to prosper too, taking advantage of the abundant hydro-electric power and realized its potential as a tourist destination. Today you can stay at a wonderful selection of Lake Geneva lodges, bed and breakfasts, and inns that retain the warm, relaxed hospitality that always has made the City of Lake Geneva and Fontana desirable vacation locations for families or for special, romantic getaways for couples and honeymooners
